The proposed solicitation will support research to help advance strategies for precipitation enhancement for augmenting hydropower potential and delivering non-energy co-benefits (e.g. water resources). Results will support improvement of efficiency and efficacy of precipitation enhancement through seeding clouds with tiny particles intended to increase the amount of atmospheric water vapor that condenses and falls to the ground as snow or rain. Specifically, research supported by this solicitation will validate the effectiveness of cloud seeding campaigns developed in collaboration with electricity sector and non-energy stakeholders, develop a scientifically informed approach to cloud seeding, and assess benefits, with an emphasis on impacts to hydropower resources.
