The California Sustainable Energy Entrepreneur Development Initiative (CalSEED) is an early-stage grant funding and professional development
program for diverse innovators and entrepreneurs working to bring clean energy concepts to market.
CalSEED Awardees gain access to several benefits. These benefits help awardees develop their concepts and prepare them for the
Prototype Award Business Plan Competition.
•Grants of $150,000 to fund concept development (non-dilutive; no equity stake)
•A powerful network of technical and industry experts, investors, prospective partners, and utilities
•Mentorship from experienced clean energy entrepreneurs
•Access to operational and technical resources throughout California
•Webinars and online training to enhance business building and fundraising skills
•Introduction to cutting-edge facilities through the Regional Innovation Clusters
•Participation in Cleantech Open’s Accelerator
•Inclusion in a community of fellow CalSEED awardees
CalSEED will award up to 33 Concept Awards in 2023.
CalSEED generally focuses on projects that fall between Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 2-4.
