Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Program (LEEP) is Calling All Building Technologies Entrepreneurs!

The Lab-Embedded Entrepreneurship Programs (LEEP) are opening their Cohort 5 applications on September 15, 2020. The three programs—Cyclotron Road, Chain Reaction Innovations, and Innovation Crossroads—embed top entrepreneurial scientists and engineers within U.S. national laboratories to perform early-stage research and development (R&D) that may lead to the launch of energy or manufacturing businesses in the future.

The U.S. Department of Energy’s Building Technologies Office is interested in entrepreneurs who focus on building energy efficiency technologies. In addition to technological access and support, the program trains innovators to develop entrepreneurial acumen and skills, while introducing them to partners who can facilitate commercial and investment opportunities.

This dual focus on early-stage R&D and entrepreneurial development provides innovators with the platform they need to take their ideas from the lab to the market.

DOE national labs play an important role in developing the innovation ecosystems in their respective regions. Each laboratory’s LEEP program is designed to leverage the unique strengths of its region. Currently, there are three programs:
