CalSEED 2019 Grant Opportunity
Purpose - CalSEED is an innovation program that supports California’s most promising energy entrepreneurs.
CalSEED invests in early-stage concepts that will usher in a new era of sustainability for California’s energy future. The grant is looking for applicants that are developing novel solutions for transforming the energy grid. Applicants should be California based individuals and organizations. Non-U.S. citizens living in California may apply.
CalSEED provides up to $600,000 in grant funding for early-stage development of promising new energy concepts. Of this up to $150,000 can be awarded for concepts. Concept Awards is the grant competition that is forthcoming with a deadline in March. An additional $450,000 can be awarded as Prototype Awards. These Prototype Awards are based on a business plan competition and winner(s) can receive up to $450,000 with opportunities for follow-on work in the CalSEED ecosystem. No match funding is required, and match funding does not increase your score. A prototype is not required to be completed by the end of the project.
Funds can generally be used for most R&D, business development, and other business-related expenses, including labor, fringe, indirect, materials, miscellaneous costs, etc.
Lottery System Eliminated

· Companies must have secured less than $1M in outside funding at the time of application.
· Specific technology types as provided by the CEC.
· Minimum impact requirements
