The 2nd annual Smart Cities Smart Bases Innovation Challenge submission window is OPEN! Seeking bold, innovative thinkers to deliver cutting-edge, dual-use technologies addressing the critical technical, environmental, and security challenges shared by today's smart cities and military bases.

As municipalities and military installations face growing threats such as cyberattacks, natural disasters, and supply chain disruptions, the need for resilient, disruptive technologies has never been greater. Both communities aim to strengthen operational efficiency, secure personnel, facilities, and infrastructure, and leverage emerging technologies in key areas including:

The Smart Cities Smart Bases Innovation Challenge is actively seeking innovative, dual-use technologies that address critical, real-world challenges shared by modern cities and military installations. The technologies should ideally be applicable to both civilian and defense contexts, though single-use solutions are also considered. The primary focus areas include:

AI and Autonomous Systems: Solutions leveraging artificial intelligence and automation to improve operational efficiency, decision-making, and resilience in both urban and base environments.

C5ISR and Sensor Systems: Advanced systems for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cyber, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance, as well as innovative sensor networks for real-time monitoring and situational awareness.

Cyber and Infrastructure Security: Technologies that protect critical infrastructure and data from cyber threats, ensuring robust security for personnel, facilities, and essential services.

Emergency Response and Mitigation: Tools and platforms that enhance preparedness and response to natural disasters, accidents, and other emergencies, minimizing disruption and loss.

Energy and Grid Security: Innovations that secure energy grids, ensure uninterrupted power supply, and protect against both physical and cyber threats to energy infrastructure.

Energy Storage and Access: Advanced storage solutions and technologies that enable reliable, flexible access to energy, supporting both sustainability and resilience goals.

Food, Water, and Supply Chain Resilience: Systems that safeguard and optimize the supply of essential resources, ensuring continuity in the face of disruptions.

Urban Air and Land Mobility: New approaches to transportation, including autonomous vehicles, drones, and smart mobility platforms for efficient movement of people and goods.

5G and Resilient Networks: Deployment of next-generation communication networks that are robust, secure, and capable of supporting critical operations under adverse conditions.

Dual-Use Capability: The most sought-after solutions are those that can be deployed in both civilian (smart city) and defense (military base) environments, maximizing impact and scalability.
