On April 3, the CEC held a virtual workgroup for this opportunity. Here are the highlights:
This proposed funding is intended for the replacement of heavy-duty internal combustion
engine (ICE) school buses owned by local educational agencies. The replacement buses will be Zero-Emission, and a portion of the allotted funds will support charging or fueling infrastructure.
As proposed, 90% of total award amount must be for buses and infrastructure, while up to 10% may be spent on the LEA's transportation program.
Bus Eligibility:
Replaced buses must be internal combustion, in working order, 2010 or older, more than 10,000lbs, and scrapped within 24 months of ZE replacement
New buses must be Zero-Emission and capable of bi-directional electricity flow
Infrastructure Eligible Costs include:
Procurement Costs (charging, supply equipment)
Installation Costs (construction, management, site design & upgrades, technical assistance)
Other Costs (resources, warranties, mobile chargers, software)
Applicants will be prioritized in 3 Tiers:
Tier 1: Rural, small, or high % of unduplicated pupils (UPC)
Tier 2: Low income, disadvantaged
Tier 3: Statewide (once all eligible Tier 1 & 2 applicants receive funding)
