James Cary Smith Community GrantProgram Accepting ApplicationsThrough October 1

Air District is currently accepting applications for the James Cary Smith Community Grant Program through Friday, October 1, at 5:00 PM. Application assistance will be available in multiple languages during a webinar on Thursday, September 16, at 10:00 AM. More information about the grant program and webinar is available below.

James Cary Smith community grant funding is available for community groups, neighborhood associations, and nonprofit organizations to uplift local efforts that improve air quality and reduce exposure to air pollution. The program will provide up to $100,000 per organization per year, with the potential for funding for up to three years.

  • Grants must be used to design and implement strategies that foster authentic community participation in planning activities that improve a community’s environmental health.

  • Projects must be located within the Air District’s jurisdiction and priority will be given to environmental justice communities. Projects in West Oakland and the Richmond/San Pablo/North Richmond area are not eligible due to funding of ongoing projects authorized by California Assembly Bill 617.
