Description:

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, commonly referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), authorizes DOE to invest $1 billion in energy improvements in rural or remote areas. DOE’s Energy Improvements in Rural or Remote Areas (ERA) Program will provide financial investment, technical assistance, and other resources to advance clean energy demonstrations and energy solutions that are replicable and scalable. ERA aims to fund clean energy projects with three specific goals:

1. Deliver measurable benefits to energy customers in rural or remote areas by funding replicable energy projects that lower energy costs, improve energy access and resilience, and/or reduce environmental harm;

2. Demonstrate new rural or remote energy system models using climate-resilient technologies, business structures that promote economic resilience, new financing mechanisms, and/or new community engagement best practices; and

3. Build clean energy knowledge, capacity, and self-reliance in rural America.


Eligibility:

For profit organizations other than small businesses

County governments

Native American tribal governments (Federally recognized)

Private institutions of higher education

City or township governments

Special district governments

Nonprofits having a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education

State governments

Native American tribal organizations (other than Federally recognized tribal governments)

Small businesses

Public and State controlled institutions of higher education

Nonprofits that do not have a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS, other than institutions of higher education

Award Details:

Total Amount Available: $300M

Maximum Award: $100M

Minimum Award: $5M

Concept Paper Deadline: 4/14/23
