On April 4th, 2022, government grants and procurement will be moving to the Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) instead of the DUNS third-party verification system.
Here are some key points you should know about these changes:
Up until April 4th, 2022, you'll still need to use your DUNS number.
If you don't have a DUNS number and are bidding on a government contract or submitting a federal grant proposal, you'll still need to obtain a DUNS number.
If you have registered your business/organization on sam.gov, you likely already have a UEI or just need to follow a few verification steps to receive one. Check here for more information.
After April 4th, 2022, DUNS numbers will not be accepted in federal systems.
Each government agency is implementing its own transition plans. You may need to reach out to any agency you work with regularly - specifically if you're expecting payments or sending invoices to them.
